Very interesting article. However wanting to own a home is no bad thing but we don't give people any other meaningful choices. Rental is an option that is frowned upon and economically it's easy to see why. Not everyone wants the responsibility of home ownership but given the way we've made it the only lesson we teach about creating wealth that is the mindset that people have adopted.

We need to teach our kids and young people to be financially aware and teach them the myriad of ways that there are to creating wealth. We don't seem to talk to people about creating income streams for themselves it's about time we did. Bricks and mortar are not the only way to plan for your retirement.

Should be read by/to all students
By 2001 I had completed my first degree, an Msc. and after still not getting much luck getting a career started, a PGCE.
Im now 32 and applying for an IVA as my debts have caught up with me and I cannot afford the repayments despite earning nearly £30K per year

There is a Petition concerning this issue on the No 10 Downing Street website. PLease do read and consider signing the petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Access-to-IVAs/ . A question has also been raised recently by people whose voices are not easily disregarded as to the legality of what the banks are doing. Are the banks in contravention of competition law, and if so are IPs perhaps IPs are colluding with the banks if they cooperate with their present requirements, expressed through TIX!? See the articles on IVAs at http://myvesta.org.uk/articles/categories/Individual-Voluntary-Arrangements/
